Real Estate tanked a while back, so my mother lost her 20 year career. She wound up moving to Florida to help my brother and his wife with their new baby, and this fall she took a job at WalMart.
The first few weeks were fine. She had forty hours, they dangled eventual benefits in front of her, she would get on the phone with me, "I don't know why you keep telling me all those bad things about WalMart."
She sent me a pair of boots. Nice looking, but had no tread on the bottom, so could be treacherous on ice. I wound up (Mom got me the boots because I needed them) wearing bright orange YakTrak cleats on them all the time so I wouldn't break my leg (thus, doubling the cost of the boots.) But they were warm, yes.
